HVAC Air-Balancing
Father John - Spring House, PA 19002
I can’t say enough about Chud’s I can’t say enough about your expertise, advice, and guidance ((Al Curcio) regarding my old home history of hvac issues. The new system is amazing. Now, Al sent out Paul so he could address the balancing of airflow, which was my #1 concern to begin with and part of the original contract. PAUL FIGURED OUT WHAT THE PRE-EXISTING & CONTINUING PROBLEM WAS WITH AIRFLOW!!!! He was so crazy thorough. Unbelievable. His work (finding an obscure and hidden damper lever that none knew was there) will save me, I think, so much money given I thought I would have to install new flex runs and other solutions. Paul even found a random section of the flex duct that was collapsed (inside springs). What I like about everyone at Chud is the consistency on everything they do. Here was another aspect of their work (balancing) that met my expectations. The workers are so thoughtful. Everyone seems so well train in customer service and honest about diagnosing and finding cost effective solutions instead of simply trying to sell me something. Paul said to me, “listen, if you like the flow I was able to fix, wait a little bit to see if this solution continues. If reduced/poor flow happens to your master bedroom again, (due to this collapsed section) let me get you a quote in case you need to pull trigger to fix it.” The goodness, honesty, hard work, and diligence towards micro-issues have been so amazing. Paul was another example of this. I am very comfortable with them. Father John

Surveyed home for whole house humidifier. Customer has boiler for heat and 2 separate air handlers for AC. One of the air handlers is in the basement and the other air handler is in the attic. We can only attach a humidifier to the basement air handler due to the fact we can’t bring water up to the attic in an unconditioned space because water could freeze and there is no way to bring water up there anyway. I would recommend a power vent humidifier or steam humidifier depending on what is better for larger square footage of the home. The first floor will be the only floor we can condition with the humidifier and the first floor is at least 2,500-3000 square feet. Will turn lead over to Steve to handle from here on out.

Customer had a issue with the humidifier. Had to go through the I comfort thermostat the dewpoint was switch to on, the dewpoint has to be off in order to control the indoor humidity. No charge

Went to do a maintenance. Before doing the maintenance I noticed the boiler was not turning on. After observing the unit I noticed it was from 1987 never has been maintenance and needs to be replaced. I did not touch anything on the boiler or perform a maintenance. I did not collect payment.

Completed preventative maintenance for gas furnace. System is operating properly at this time.confirmed proper high and low voltages. Inspected all the electrical components. Cleaned the flame sensor. Cleaned out burner tubes and burner box. Checked for restrictions in the flue, inducer, Pressure switches and tubing. No restrictions present. Checked gas piping and gas valve for leaks. No gas leaks at this time. Checked humidifier for any water leaks. Replaced the customer supplied #35 water panel and cleaned out the panel housing. Checked Merv 11 air filter. Filter was due for replacement. Replaced the Merv 11 16x25x5 Air filter provided by the customer. All electrical components are working properly at this time. CO level is in the safe operation range (18ppm). Thank you for your continued business with us and for your military service!

Performed preventative maintenance for gas furnace. Inspected all the electrical components. Confirmed proper high and low voltages. Cleaned the burners, flame sensor and burner compartment. Replaced the customer supplied Merv 11 20x25x5 air filter. Tested the amp draw for the blower and inducer. Both were operating within the manufacturer specs. System had a temperature rise of 53°. Inspected venting for restrictions. Performed a combustion analysis on the furnace. System is operating at 83.3% efficiency with a CO level of 12ppm. System is operating properly at this time. No charge due to free with install maintenance. Found whistling noise seemed to come from the dirty filter. Once changed I found the noise was gone. If you hear the noise again give us a call and we can further investigate. Model #SL280UH110V60C-05 Serial #5921D17149

Did a preventative maintenance on a Lennox gas furnace and a humidifier service. During the maintenance I clean the flame sensor. Also cleaned out the burner compartment and the blower compartment. Also did Am readings on the inducer motor and the blower motor which both meet to furnace specs. I also did a combustion test the O2 level was 20 and then seal level was 6. Also swapped out the filter. And the number 35 humidifier panel. And cleaning it out flushing the drain line and making sure the condensate pump works. While servicing the humidifier I noticed it was not getting water, so I shut the saddle valve and opened it back up again and it got water. Everything is working properly at this point. I recommend a new Bi-pass humidifier M#SL280UH110V60C-03 s#5915D19352

Customer called due to air conditioning stopped working. Upon inspection I found no low-voltage at the contactor yet the furnace was moving air through the house at room temperature. It showed me that it was either an issue with condensate, thermostat or wiring for low voltage. Found a wire nut connection at the condenser that had oversized wire nuts used that are not meant for 18 gauge wire. Replace them with smaller wire nuts, reconnected the wires and insulated it from the elements. Tested system when completed. System is operating properly at this time.

Customer called for air conditioning system not operating. Customer stated the system was blowing warm air but also noticed a time it was calling for air but did nothing. Chud was out in summer 2020 and found they first floor system low on refrigerant charge. We added 2lbs of 410A refrigerant as a first time fix. Customer had another company out in the spring 2022 and found it low again as well as water on the floor most likely due to frozen system. Upon inspection today we turned it on at the thermostat and it started cooling without issue. Tested the temperature split and it was at a perfect 20°. Did some further testing to see if I could replicate the issues the customer was having. Found pressures in the recommended range by York. Pressures were at 119/278 with a subcooling of 7°. Customer could also have a possible intermittent issue with the thermostat. Customer did change the batteries and it seemed to be working fine since. Attached is an estimate for thermostat replacement.

Returned today to perform a leak investigation for a 2009 Rheem air conditioning system. Last time I was hear the system contained little to no refrigerant left. Evacuated the remaining refrigerant and filled the system with nitrogen. Filled it up to 300psi and searched for any noise or bubbles with my leak detection solution. Found multiple connections on the evaporator coil bubbling showing multiple leaks. This coil is not as old as the system which shows it must have been replaced in the past due to leaking. This coil will need to be replaced as well as another pressure test after repair. Pull the system down to a 500 micron vacuum. System will need to be charged with 12-13 lbs virgin 410A refrigerant. Chud service manager Paul Ash will speak with the home warranty and put together a quote for an evaporator coil replacement w/ refrigerant. System is not operating at this time. Attached will be a picture of the main leak.

Frank B.
Customer called for air-conditioning not functioning. Upon inspection I found the heat pump shut down on a low pressure switch. Went to check the operating pressures and found the system with a 25 psi suction and a 3 psi liquid. This turns out to be a major leak in the system. System holds a factory charge of over 12lbs 410A refrigerant. We would need to return recover the rest of the refrigerant that’s in the system and do a high-pressure nitrogen leak investigation. Once we find the leak we can then move onto the next phase for the system to get it back working properly. Current evaporator coil is nine years old and the condenser is 13 years old. The office will follow up on Monday so that we may make the appointment to move forward with the leak search. Customer has home warranty from America’s preferred and customer will be coordinating with the home warranty to see what they cover. System is not operating at this time.

Performed preventative maintenance for a newly installed air conditioning system. Replaced the customer supplied Merv 11 20x25x5 air filter. Filter was in poor condition at just about a year old. This restricts airflow and keeps the system from operating normally. Filter should be changed once every 6-12 months. With this system preferably 6 months. Inspected all the electrical components. Confirmed proper high and low voltages. Tested the temperature split between the supply and return. System is operating at a 20° differential on a 63° day. Tested the amp draw for the blower, compressor and fan motor. All were operating within the manufacturer specs. System is operating properly at this time. Customer is interested in updating some of the older damaged flex runs in the attic. Would need to come out with estimator to properly inspect and quote. No charge for todays visit due to free with install maintenance.

Customer says he called to cancel last week.

Performed preventative maintenance on 2 Lennox AC systems. Tested the evaporator coil drain and the condensate pump for proper drainage, and at this time the condensate pumps are operating properly. MERV 16 air filter was supplied and replaced by the customer. The temperature split is at 20° Difference between supply and return air. Refrigerant charge is good on both units. Amperage on compressor is at 6.0 RLA and the fan motor is at 0.6 FLA, these are within the correct amperage rated for these units. Both units are ready for AC season.
